Expo has a new set of retractable dry erase markers that are BOTH non-toxic AND low odor. The set includes three markers: blue, black and red. The tip is a fine point and they work great. The markers are slim making them easier to hold.
The bar code number is 0-7164101056-7. I found them at Staples. Remember, not all Expo markers are both non-toxic and low-odor, so make sure all four words are on the package before purchasing the markers.

More Choices for Low-Odor, Non-Toxic Markers
Office Depot no longer carries the Office Depot brand of low-odor, non-toxic markers; however, Staples carries the Staples Duramark brand of low-odor, non-toxic permanent markers. They also carry the Quartet brand of low-odor, non-toxic dry erase markers.
These markers come in a variety of colors and tips. You can get fine point, chisel tip, etc.
Other stores may carry low-odor, non-toxic markers, so ask the employee when you go into your favorite office supply store.

Staples now carries two brands that are low-odor, non-toxic: Expo and Quartet. They are usually fine point or chisel tip and you can get them in a variety pack of different colors or just black. They carry the seal "AP Certified Non-Toxic" from ACMI (Art & Creative Materials Institute).
Products bearing the AP seal of the Art & Creative Materials Institute, Inc. (ACMI) are certified non-toxic. A medical expert evaluates each product and its ingredients. A product can be certified non-toxic only if it contains no materials in sufficient quantities to be toxic or injurious to humans, or to cause acute or chronic health problems. AP certification is reviewed by ACMI's Toxicological Advisory Board.

Looking for Places to Find Non-Toxic Markers
Office Depot has stopped carrying their Foray brand of non-toxic markers. If anyone knows of any place to find non-toxic, low-odor markers, please let me know! They must be BOTH non-toxic AND low-odor.

A Challenge to Offices Around the World
For 2009, I challenge you to get rid of all your toxic markers (regular and dry erase) and replace them with safe, non-toxic, low-odor markers. Your lungs will thank you.
Just a reminder that when you go into your office supply store, you have to ask for both non-toxic AND low odor markers! Office Depot has some great non-toxic, low odor markers (their own brand), and you can check other office supply stores as well. Keep your office (and home) free of fumes from the toxic marker pens.

Office Depot has GREAT Non-Toxic, Low Odor Markers
Check out your local Office Depot and you will find that they carry NON TOXIC, LOW ODOR dry erase markers as well as the regular markers in their own Office Depot Foray brand. They are GREAT! I highly recommend them. Remember, the key isn't just to get NON TOXIC, as many companies say their brand is NON TOXIC when it really isn't! It's important to make sure the words LOW ODOR follow NON TOXIC.
I contacted the management of Office Depot and congratulated them for carrying these markers. If you are happy with the markers, I encourage you to contact them as well.
It's also important to call the office supply companies and ask them to NOT carry the toxic markers!

Get Rid of Your Toxic Markers
Ever been in an office and suddenly a wave of a horrible smell attacks your nostrils? Look out! It's probably the toxic markers in your office! Several companies make dry erase markers as well as permanent markers that they claim are Non-Toxic, but in my opinion, this is far from the truth!
I did some research only to find that the only markers that did NOT attack my nostrils while I was using them were the LOW-ODOR NON-TOXIC ones. The most horrible-smelling markers are the large, chisel-tip as well as the extra-large ones. Many of them say "use only in well-ventilated area." When I called one company that makes these markers, they told me that the large markers were never meant for offices, but only for large warehouses where there is adequate ventilation such as open windows or garage doors that are open; however, they never tell you this on the marker.

Save your lungs! For your own health, find out what kind of permanent and dry erase markers your office has and get rid of the ones that are toxic and produce fumes. How do you know which ones are bad? Take the cap off. If it produces a strong odor that you smell immediately (without holding it too close to your nose), that's a bad sign. Get rid of the darn thing!
